The hi-hats of Fracture & Sam Binga’s “Xtatic” are blasting from the set of desktop speakers in my soon-to-leave Berlin apartment while I am writing these lines. It is the 5th time I am listening to the new Oscillate Mix by James Bangura and it still gives me the chills how versatile and flawlessly mixed it is. The energy is captivating from the first beat of Dynoman’s “Past Realities” until the last rolling bassline of Rene Wise’s bonus track “Truffle” and I wished the mix would not end after 1 hour 2 minutes and 17 seconds!Timothy aka James Bangura is a Washington, D.C. based DJ, producer and label owner. He started releasing music in 2014 with his first official release named “Transitions” coming out on London-based Pineal Sounds in 2018. Since then Timothy has been putting out a constant flow of high quality releases on labels like Vanity Press Records, Mister Saturday Night Records, Haus of Altr, Banoffee Pies and Art-E-Fax and started his own label Percussion Functions with an 8-track compilation in 2019. Alongside Nativesun and Amal, Bangura started the super group Black Rave Culture which is at the heart of a new generation of Black artists reclaiming the roots of techno and making long overdue changes to the narratives about its origins. They released their self-titled debut album on the NYC label Haus of Altr in May 2021. Timothy is constantly working on new music and there might be an album coming out soon!
