A journey through Yobi's musical influences that shaped him as a producer, an eclectic mix that brings depth, unity, and consciousness. Alan Lieu (born February 10, 1990), better known as Yobi Alan, is a Canadian music producer/DJ.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he found a start in music at age 17 as a DJ for break dancers and local clubs. In 2009, Yobi moved to Toronto, Canada, to pursue his passion as a self-taught composer.

His work is known for its moody atmospheric tones, which blend uniquely with electronic, ambient, rock, and hip hop. He uses samplers, turntables, field recordings, and keyboards as his main instruments.

A hallmark of Alan’s music is pushing boundaries and being uninhibited by the restrictions of genre. His fearless compositional approach and diversity of instrumentals are what give Yobi’s sound its singularity. His latest experimental downtempo EP, “Snow Ball”, was released fall of 2024 on Vinyl and Bandcamp. His newest project veers in a different direction, focusing on collaborative improvisation that expands across cultures and sounds. Leaning into exploration, deep, bass-heavy grooves, and a greater implementation of live instruments and vocals.
